Thinking about Greek Life?

There are many reasons to join a Greek-lettered organization. Some join for networking opportunities in their professional life, others are searching for life long friendship. Maybe both appeal to you. The first step in your search for the right organization is asking the right questions. We've decided to answer a few for you:

A: There are many benefits to joining a Greek-lettered organization! You get to build person connections, while meeting members who make act as great professional contacts. You also get an opportunity to expand you student leadership on campus, and give back to the community though service. One feature that is unique to a multicultural Greek-lettered organization is the ability to focus some of your efforts on cultural enrichment, while raising visibility for multicultural students on the college campus!

Q: Why should I join Greek life?

Q: Don't Greek-lettered organizations haze?

A: In the past, Greek-lettered organizations have gained a reputation of hazing, which is defined as any action or situation, with or without the consent of the participants, which recklessly, intentionally, or unintentionally endangers the mental, physical, or academic health or safety of a potential new member. While there is validity to this history, in 2011, Sigma Lambda Upsilon took a stand against hazing and integrated policy to keep members accountable for their actions and the harm it might cause.  Hazing motivates no one. It hinders academic achievement, destroys self-esteem and causes emotional strain and physical harm.

Anti Hazing Policy:

The membership of Sigma Lambda Upsilon/Señoritas Latinas Unidas Sorority, Inc. does not condone and will not tolerate the hazing in any manner.  No chapter, student or alumnus shall conduct nor condone hazing activities or any other activities which are not consistent with academic achievement, fraternal law, ritual or policy or the regulations and policies of the educational institution or applicable state law.

Sigma Lambda Upsilon/Señoritas Latinas Unidas Sorority, Inc. indisputably prohibits any acts of hazing and requires Hermanas to reports such incidents. Any Hermana who engages in such activities will be thoroughly investigated by the National Policy & Compliance Board of Sigma Lambda Upsilon/Señoritas Latinas Unidas Sorority, Inc., in accordance with the procedures set forth by the National Policy & Compliance
